About the event
Many of us watch the news about the war in Ukraine and wish we could help. But most of us are not super-rich and cannot give large sums through American charity groups. And the problem with large charities and small donations is that a significant portion of the amount donated gets used up in bureaucracy before it makes it into the hands of the individual needing help.
This is why I decided to reach out to friends and relatives in Budapest who are already involved in helping refugees to help us channel funds directly to help in need.
60 min Yoga + 15 min Meditation - taught by Dora
Take time out to help!
100% of the revenue from the fundraising class will be directly wired to Budapest to invest in food, clothing, medical bills, vet bills, pet food, and school supplies for children.
Clearly, what we can purchase, is directly related to how much money we raise.
As you guys know, I am (Dora, owner of Spira Yoga) born and raised in Hungary. Hungary directly borders Ukraine and by now, over 500,000 refugees crossed into Hungary.
My family and friends are directly involved in the aid efforts. They volunteer in shelters, collect money for food and clothing, and last week, they were able to raise enough money to purchase an ambulance vehicle with medical supplies to send to Ukraine.
Click here to watch this short video that Jutka, my second cousin created with Peter in Hungary. Yes, feel free to smile, Peter is not a professional cameraman, but very good at helping refugees!
Peti (Peter) has been at the frontline of helping refugees since the first weeks of the war. He has helped and organized aid, from giving lifts to refugees, helping with shelters, food, and other necessities, to fundraising for medical equipment. He is very well-informed about the needs of refugees. Peti is also one of the moderators of a Facebook group with 140.3K members,(a very large number for Hungarian standards) dedicated to helping Ukrainian refugees in Hungary, both offering and asking for help, he oversees most of the requests and knows most of the aid workers in the field.
You guys may even recognize Jutka from the video, she takes my Saturday 10 am classes via zoom, yes which makes it 7 pm her time; that is dedication!
I figured the best way to make sure that every dollar that we raise goes towards helping refugees is to directly wire the money over to Peter's aid organization in Hungary. Jutka will document what and how they spend the money and will send us short video footage of the results of our fundraiser.
