Yoga Spring Cleaning

As tulips poke their little green heads out of the ground, we too can find new growth and renewal. In this 3 hour workshop we will look at old patterns of thought and behavior that hinder our growth and how we can compassionately spring clean that which clutters our lives. What would you like to clear? What would you like to plant in your life? What are you already growing?
This workshop includes discussion, written reflection, asana (movement) and breath, yoga nidra (a technique for deep relaxation and restoration) and a take home practice.
Please bring a pen and journal with you.
Arm Balance Basics

This workshop will explore the foundation of arm balancing, the physics of transferring your weight to your hands and the playful mindset needed to maintain the balance and lose the fear. We will learn how to enter multiple poses safely with an emphasis on experimentation rather than perfectionism.
We’ll warm and prepare the body using deep stretching and sun salutations. For our wrist health a variety of stretches will be employed for you to use at your disposal throughout your life on your mat. You can expect the following to be covered:
*Crow (bakasana)
*Side Crow (Parsva Bakasana)
*Scissors (Eka pada koundinyasana II)
*Twisted Scissors (Eka pada koundinyasana I)
*Galavasana (from 1 legged chair)
If time allows & our wrists hold up we may cover Tittibhasana (firefly), Elephant trunk & Astavakrasana (from a seat). Come with any questions and leave with a refreshed spirit and richer understanding of these amazing postures.
This workshop is for students new to arm balances or with a solid understanding of crow who are looking to grow.

Now take it one step further as your learn to take the same raw energy and turn into a force for your personal self defense. With 35 years martial arts training, John Jessum will provide a two hour martial arts course in traditional Japanese karate outlining the basic stances, blocks and strikes. Having studied 7 years in Osaka, Japan under the top martial artists of the day, Jess will break down the movements and alignments to build the basic blocks of an ancient system of self defense that is easy to understand and apply. You have the strength and the power, now add the confidence with these techniques in this two hour introductory course!

Your Best Bend – Backbending Workshop

Do you skip backbends to avoid discomfort? Do you pepper them throughout your practice? Whatever your answer when done safely, backbends provide a sense of freedom and courage. Backbends energize, combat depression and open our hearts. In this workshop you will discover the power in your legs legs, strengthen and liberate your spine. Overtime the spine gets a lot more forward bending flection throughout your daily routine so why not add a little balance with a bit of backbending? Val will warm you up and prepare for all levels of backbends. Perhaps you will conquer your fear of the wheel but it’s not mandatory! Come explore how accessible back bending and strengthening can really be. All levels welcome.
